Many common plants are toxic to dogs, ranging from mild stomach upset to severe organ failure. Highly dangerous plants include Sago Palm (liver failure, potentially fatal), Azalea/Rhododendron (cardiovascular collapse), Oleander (heart damage, potentially fatal), and Castor Bean (contains ricin). Common household plants to avoid: Aloe Vera, Pothos, Snake Plant, ZZ Plant, Jade Plant, Peace Lily, and Dieffenbachia. Garden plants to watch for: Tulip and Daffodil bulbs (convulsions, cardiac issues), Autumn Crocus (liver/kidney damage), Hydrangea, Chrysanthemums, and English Ivy. If your dog ingests a toxic plant, contact your veterinarian or the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (888-426-4435) immediately.
